Below is a sample letter you can use to respond to proposed cuts during the 2012 legislative session.

I am a customer of (INSERT BROKERAGE NAME), a support service brokerage located in (CITY) Oregon and I live in your district. In case you don’t know, support service brokerages are the result of a class action lawsuit settlement in the year 2000 and currently assist approximately 7000 Oregonians with developmental disabilities to live independent and productive lives in the community.

Support service brokerages provide this service in a cost-effective manner and draw money to our state through a federal Medicaid waiver program. Support service brokerages also create thousands of jobs across the state both by employing staff to run the brokerages themselves as well as providing work for numerous providers of services to people with disabilities.

The services I receive from my brokerage and providers include/help me be more independent in the following areas of my life: (TELL YOUR STORY AND SHARE WHY BROKERAGE SERVICES ARE ESSENTIAL TO YOU.)

I am writing you today to ask that you oppose the proposed cuts to support service brokerage budgets in the upcoming February short session. My services, as well as the services of thousands other citizens with disabilities, depend on it.
